ENTER - Development of an action plan for barrierfree travelling

The goal of this study was to give a comprehensive overview of the barriers for mobility-impaired travellers in rail transport and to show sollutions.

The goal of this study was on the one hand to give a comprehensive overview of the barriers for mobility-impaired travellers on trains, light-rails, and trams in Austria, and at the other hand to offer solutions to overcome these barriers. The outcome of the study is a catalogue of measures that simplifies rail travel for people with reduced mobility in Austria.

The project included:
  • Analysis of barriers for people with reduced mobility in current rail passenger transport (rolling stock as well as stops and stations) in Austria.
  • Collection and structured survey of international good-practice examples for barrier-free accessibility and usability of rail passenger transport.
  • Catalogue of measures that could practically be implemented in Austrian rail transport in order to ease travelling for people with reduced mobility.

The project was conducted in cooperation with freiraum - Austrian partner of the European Institute for Design and Disability.
